Grades 6,7 & 8
Recommendations for parents:
* Please check for quality as well as for neatness
* Blue or black ball point pens (pencil usually for Math assignments)
* Use a ruler to draw lines
* Cursive writing for formal papers
* Remove ragged edges from paper
* No cross outs; use ( - ) EXCEPT for Math and Science
* Must be handed in on time
* For absentees, homework may be picked up according to the handbook
* For vacationers, ALL assignments will be given and made up upon return to school.
***** We recommend a set homework time and place each night (kitchen table works best – not a bedroom). This develops good work/study skills. If there is no written homework, the student should bring work home to review. Have papers and pens/pencils, rulers, and dictionary available at the homework site at all times.
7. Books must always be covered. Uncovered books will not be allowed home, thus homework will have to be done during detention after school.
8. ***Mrs. Barry, Miss Maiorano and Mr. Garrity are available during lunch period to work with any student who is having difficulty with assignments. We are also available after school, but require at least a 24 hour advance request.
9. If your child is going home in a different manner than usual, we need a note. Only those students eligible to take the bus may leave by bus. Written permission is also needed for your child to ride a bike to school.
10. Please be sure we have your current telephone number and that your child knows how to contact you during the day.
Thank you. Please feel free to contact us through the school phone # or web site. We look forward to a rewarding year with your children. Thank you for entrusting them to us.
The Middle School Team
Recommendations for parents:
- Please review the student handbook with your child. The policies within guide our days. Any decisions we make on a daily basis are outlined in the handbook.
- Communication is beneficial to you, your child and to us. If you have any questions about our methods, assignments, grades, etc., please bring it to our attention - misunderstandings can usually be cleared quickly. However, due to our schedules, appointments must be made to meet with us before or after school.
- Middle School Status: We expect students to take responsibility for their work as well as for their actions. We also expect students to take more of a leadership role in the school by volunteering to participate in all activities as well as acting as role models for the younger students.
- ***HONOR ROLL ***: To ensure that St. Mary’s honor roll indicates work of quality, all grades in exploratory subjects must be a B or above. High Honor qualifications remain the same; all exploratory subjects must present a grade of A- or above. Work habit grades should be a 1 or a 2.
- Please check your child's agenda. They are being guided to enter homework on a daily basis. There should be some homework each evening. If there is no assignment, they are instructed to list the lesson of that day. Use the whole month pages to refer to long term projects, book reports, journals, etc. These agendas have proved to be quite beneficial for P/T communication. Homework not done can be indicated; teachers’/parents’ concerns or requests can also be expressed without worry of lost or forgotten notes. As such, we request that you sign these agendas each weekend. They will be checked each Monday. They can be used, though, to check your child’s work habits at any time.
